Detail:
The Learning Hub in November 2021 is on the topic of Safeguarding and ADHD and Autism. The sessions will explore the relevance of an Autism and/or ADHD diagnosis when it comes to investigating and supporting potential harmful sexual behaviours.
Facilitator: Dr Annie Clements (hons)
Annie founded Autism and ADHD in 2012, looking at everything that causes families and individuals a headache when they find themselves entering this community. The Autism & ADHD Team members, whilst being highly trained professionals, all have a personal connection to ADHD/Autism, either through being a parent/carer, by having a diagnosis themselves, or both. As well as offering training, being involved in academic research and consultancy, they offer support to anyone who may live or work with individuals or families with Autism and ADHD, working with all age groups on a global scale.
Workshop topics will include:
- What are Autism and ADHD really?
- How does this diagnostic profile create barriers and confusion when it comes to concerns about Harmful Sexual Behaviour?
- What can we learn from previous case studies?
- How do we engage in professional curiosity?
- How do we move forward together to ensure that children, families and staff are safe?
The Learning Hub is an important two-way feedback loop between front line practitioners and the Strategic Safeguarding Partnership, ensuring learning on priority local issues is shared and acted on at all levels in a timely way.
