Target Audience: Frontline professionals working with children and young people.

 

Aim of the Course:

  1. To improve the quality of support, advice and guidance offered to young people who self-harm, or maybe at risk of committing suicide.
  2. Offer consistent support to children and young people no matter what point of contact, to standardise the response of agencies regardless of what type of agency.
  3. To increase knowledge, skills and competence of staff to recognise the signs and respond appropriately when working with a young person who self-harms, and/or knows of someone who self-harms.
  4. To meet a locally identified need by service providers and commissioners.
Learning Outcomes:
  • An understanding of why young people self-harm
  • Strategies for responding to a disclosure of self-harm
  • Questioning skills with young people who self-harm
  • Alternative coping strategies for young people who self-harm and the key steps to help them reduce their harming

Free Car Parking can be accessed via Gadebridge Lane from the Leighton Buzzard Road. Click here for map. It is a 10-15 minutes’ walk across Gadebridge Park to The Forum. Please be aware that there is no street lighting after dark in Gadebridge Park.

Food and Drink -The Forum’s café in the atrium serves hot and cold drinks and a variety of hot and cold light meals and snacks. Delegates are welcome to use the café to eat their own meals.
